Slow Waters: with Anna Newton
Introducing Slow Waters - a new series where we slow down and talk all things soft living, rest and rejuvenation with some of our favourite Homebodies. To launch the series, we’re chatting with an OG MIRROR WATER supporter, Anna Newton - aka @theannaedit. Anna is an award-winning content creator, writer and founder of the brilliant 'The Wardrobe Edit' Substack newsletter. Let's get into it...
Hey Anna! Let's get straight to it - how do you define rest?
To me, rest is a chance to slow down, reenergise, reset and take stock. As an extroverted introvert, rest is my happy place.
How do you protect your energy in a fast-paced world with work, responsibilities and everything in between?
No work past 5pm or at weekends. I’m at my most energetic in the mornings, so that’s when I’ll be in overdrive mode ticking off my to-do list, so I can spend the evenings tucked in bed early.
Have you ever struggled with prioritising rest? And what would you say to someone who feels guilty about slowing down?
Rest = growth. Without it, you aren’t going anywhere!
Your ideal slow day looks like...
A lie-in, an at-home workout, reading in the garden and baking cookies.
Do you have a bathing or body care ritual?
Every morning after the shower, I dry brush and apply a layer of body oil. It’s my five minutes to myself every day - non-negotiable, and my skin feels incredibly soft thanks to it.
A scent or texture that brings you comfort…
Sniffing my kid’s head of hair. I could do that all day!
Name a self-care habit you swear by?
My LED mask. I try to use it every other day. I sit back, relax, listen to a podcast and usually fall asleep with it on.
A book, tv show, podcast, or song that helps you relax…
The U.S Office is my comfort watch. Or if I want to be in my feelings and get all nostalgic, I listen to Lana Del Rey’s ‘Born To Die’ album.
