Music for the MIRROR WATER World by Alexandra Torres
At MIRROR WATER, we’re always inspired by the people who feel at home in our world - those who understand the quiet power of ritual, rest, and the way music can move us. So when MW Homebody, Alexandra Torres reached out with a playlist she’d lovingly curated just for us, we were immediately sold.
Born and raised in Los Angeles and working in the entertainment industry, Alexandra has a deep appreciation for music’s ability to shape our moods and create atmosphere.
In her words:
"This is an hour-long ambient playlist that I envision listening to while burning Sun Through Trees and enjoying a long bath - designed to relax and uplift oneself.”
Alexandra’s playlist beautifully captures the essence of MIRROR WATER: grounded, introspective, expansive. It’s music to sink into, to soften with. Music for inner space. Hit play below and let it soundtrack your next moment of calm. And as you listen, scroll down to get to know Alexandra a little better...
Hey Alexandra! Please could you introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about you?
Hey, I’m Alexandra and I was born and raised in Los Angeles and have lived here my whole life! I went to school for Film and work in the Music/Entertainment industry. When I’m not working, I can be found at concerts, the movies, and enjoying spending quality time with my friends.
Talk to us about your love for music! How did it come about and when did you decide to pursue music professionally?
I’ve always been interested in different art forms, but music was always number one for me. I grew up with rather strict parents and have an older sister, and the only way they’d let her go out to concerts was if I went with her, so she was sort of my gateway into being exposed to really amazing artists and music from a very young age. We’re lucky that we grew up in such a diverse part of LA and had access to going to different shows and music festivals. Some of my best memories are of my sister and I running around different concerts and shows in my teen years. From then on, I’ve been fascinated with how music and visuals come together to tell different stories. I knew I wanted to be part of that world and create something that resonates with people.
Do you have a personal ritual with music - ie something you listen to when you need comfort, inspiration, or a reset?
When I need a reset, my go to ritual is going through my record/CD collection and finding something to play that is energizing or uplifting. I’ll also go ahead and light some incense or burn a candle, and make a really yummy iced matcha or a cup of tea.
We LOVE how much your playlist captures the essence of the MIRROR WATER world… we’re curious, in your opinion, what are you looking for when curating a playlist for a brand?
I try to focus on capturing the essence of what they represent–whether it’s the mood, values, or energy they seem like they want to convey. I really aim to curate a playlist that will feel authentic to the brand’s world, creating a seamless experience where the music feels like an extension of the brand’s vibe.
Is there a particular song on the playlist that resonates with you deeply right now?
Dust Beam by ML Buch is one that makes me feel a wide range of feelings–calm, nostalgia, longing.
If you were to give SMOOTH Body Oil a song… what would it be?
Definitely Smooth Operator by Sade!
Music has such a powerful ability to shape our emotions. Do you have a song that instantly lifts your mood or makes you feel grounded?
This is such a throwback pick for me, but Lights Out, Words Gone by Bombay Bicycle Club was definitely my mood lifting song for a long time and still is. It’s just such a warm, dance-y nostalgic song for me that will always remind me of good times and warmer weather.
How does music help you embrace the change in seasons?`
I always like to try to capture the unique energy that comes with each shift. As the weather changes, I find that the music I listen to also changes to match the mood of the season. I’m definitely excited to listen to songs that match the refreshing, transformational vibes of spring and something that’ll remind me of warmer days ahead.
If you could describe the feeling of spring in a sound, what would it be?
For me, it’s the hum of a distant lawn mower cutting through the quiet of a Sunday morning, or the occasional chatter of neighbors catching up in front yards.
For us, Spring is a time of renewal and awakening. Are there any songs on the playlist that particularly symbolise fresh starts or transformation for you?
I really enjoy the last two songs on the playlist, Blue Morning by Isabel’s Dream and Krumville by Oneohtrix Point Never. I think those two songs really capture the hopefulness that comes with springtime and fresh starts.
